"A painting is a solid object that doesn't let me in. But when I create a painting, I have a feeling of being inside it. I wanted to make paintings that captured this two-leveled experience. Color was one of the tools I used. Black-and-white monochrome occupied the painting's interior, imaginative space; red, the exterior surface. A part of me felt the two types of space—the interior and the exterior—were in battle."
